Devo Acts 1:3

Devo Acts 1:3

“He presented himself alive after His suffering by many infallible proofs, being seen by them during forty days…”

The word “infallible” is described this way from the original greek: “that from which something is surely and plainly known, indubitable evidence, a proof.”

Do we understand the weight of what the book of Acts is saying? No small claim. It’s an enormous statement. Jesus, who was crucified and rose from the dead, presented himself alive and did miracles among men. No one has ever been able to say that about anyone else that has walked on the face of this earth.

While I don’t know of any physical evidence that has been unearthed concerning Jesus’ time on earth, we do know others, like the well-connected aristocrat and military leader in Palestine, Josephus, (not a Christian) described Jesus as a man “who did surprising deeds” and was condemned to be crucified by Pilate. His account of Jesus was within a few decades of Jesus’ lifetime and almost exactly as Dr. Luke describes in the first 4 verses of his account of what happened in the Book of Acts.

In fact Jesus’ convincing and decisive proofs that He was the Messiah, God incarnate, coming to earth to show himself to us and to make the ultimate sacrifice himself to atone for us, was so convincing to these followers of Jesus that they gave up their very lives in incredible sacrifice and suffering to bring this message to the world which lives on today because Jesus still works in the heart of man with many convincing, decisive proofs that He is, was, and always will be. He has certainly convinced this girl.

But you think of all the books and internet blogs or articles we read and decide so frivolously that what we are reading is true, what if, just what if, we believe for even a moment of the possibility that this deity, miraculously came to earth, born to a virgin, walked among and lovingly served and taught multitudes a new way of life, did incredible, unmatched  miracles, died at the hands of those who mocked Him and rose again to prove to the world that He was our conquering Savior, reaching His hand out to us because of his great love for all mankind. Isn’t that worth giving some great thought and time to? Dare to ask God to reveal himself to you today and convince you of His great love for you. If He does, isn’t He worth following as we discover it was for his faithful followers, all through the book of Acts?
